Each boss has a specific type of food that you need to collect. Only a well-fed boss will let you progress. Combining objects in a row creates powerful tools. Matching 3 items destroys them. Getting 4 items in a row forms a rocket. Arranging 4 square items gives you a helicopter. Putting 5 items in the shape of G or T creates a bomb. Making 5 items align in a row generates a disco ball.
