First, select a piece – each piece moves in a unique way: * Pawn: one step forward or two on the first move, can go diagonally forward. * King: moves one space in any direction. * Queen: moves freely in any direction – vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. * Rook: moves horizontally or vertically but not diagonally, no limits on distance. * Knight: moves in an L-shape – two spaces vertically and one horizontally, or vice versa. * Bishop: moves any number of steps diagonally in any direction, but only diagonally.
