In the menu you can purchase and upgrade fighters. You have two crown currencies and gold. For gold you buy and upgrade fighters. Crowns pump up your prince, which gives you a bonus to money at the beginning of the level. To move around the map, tap on the screen and drag in the direction you want to move. Below there is a list of fighters and buffs. In order to place a fighter, drag him to the point where you want to place him; you can only place him on green zones.
